What could possibly be wrong with today’s fashion?

Updated: Feb 25

Three things readily come to mind.

1 – Casual dressing has become the norm of the day. In many of the few exceptions, sneakers, which were once worn for sports or outdoors activities, are now part of formal attire.

This is a telling sign of how seriously we now take those situations for which we once "put our best foot forward", as reflected in the phrase “put on your Sunday best”.

The less seriously we feel about something, the less respect we have for it. And with less respect, the more we believe that our own opinion is what matters the most in that regard.

2 – There is an increasing blurring or erasure of the difference in the everyday clothing between men and women , with preference going to the male attire. This is a clear indication of the preference of the male traits over the female. Such unspoken declaration further weakens the stature of women in that society, or within the individual.

3 - Men and women today wear outfits that are body hugging, expose much of the body and are quite revealing. Regardless of how such fashion is justified, no one can deny that the aim is to draw attention, to make the wearer desirable, or attractive.

Since the hugging and exposure emphasize the erogenous aspects of the body, it goes without saying that the desired attraction will simulate the sexual instinct. Therefore, chances are very high that the instinct of anyone who sees such fashion will be triggered. And there is no saying how they would respond in their thoughts, words or deeds.

We are all connected in our thoughts. So, one can only imagine the havoc that stimulated thoughts must be causing. Is it any wonder that we are hearing more about sexual assault against the most vulnerable, sexual slavery of the young, child pornography, etc.?

We know the power of example. So, is it any wonder that this fashion is now common among teenagers, and pre-teens, who are not aware of the implications?

The other common excuse of "I am only doing it to please my husband or wife or partner", is yet another denial of facts.

Any adult who refuses to admit these facts about today’s fashion and trends is either naïve or not being honest with themselves. In fact, it would be correct to say of those who entice with their fashion that, this is their own form of sexual gratification, through conquest.

Hopefully, the responsible adult who has come to accept the answer given here will help to educate the younger ones, and perhaps their own friends.
